Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are vertical lines that develop with ageing at the lateral corners of the mouth, towards the chin. They result in a persistently sad facial expression.

They are due to loss in skin elasticity, due to a reduced production of collagen and elastin and a generalized loss of volume. 

The formation of wrinkles in this area is multifactorial.

Main contributing factors are ageing, repeated unprotected sun exposure, smoking, poor hydration, exposure to the cold, alcohol.

They can present in the form of superficial dynamic lines or deep static lines.
